On-road testing of fully autonomous Peugeot 3008 SUVs starts this autumn.

The PSA Group’s deal with the MIT spin-off technology startup will see self-driving software and sensor systems fitted to the new 3008 – recently named 2017 European Car of the Year – with the plans to roll out the trial to other cities worldwide.

Nutonomy has been conducting public trials of an on-demand autonomous vehicle mobility service in Singapore since August 2016.

The partnership comes as a growing number of carmakers team up with technology firms to accelerate their research into autonomous vehicles. Earlier this year, Daimler and Uber announced a tie-up that will see self-driving Mercedes-Benz vehicles made available for the Uber ride-sharing network. The statement followed the announcement of a partnership between Uber and Volvo and Ford’s news that it will start mass-producing driverless vehicles for ride-sharing services from 2021.
