German energy firm E.ON has opened its first ultra-fast charging points in the UK, expanding its existing network of more than 3,000 charging points across Europe.

The UK opening complements the network of more than 3,000 charging points E.ON already operates across Europe

The two 175kW charge points are located at the Birmingham Armada fuel station run by EG Group and located near Spaghetti Junction in Erdington. The chargers support both CCS and CHAdeMO connectors and offer contactless/smartphone payment, using the E.ON Drive App (with or without an E.ON RFID or tag) or logging onto eonevpay.co.uk for pay as you go access.

Hannah Collishaw, director of E.ON Drive in the UK, said: “This is about enhancing the experience of driving an electric vehicle in this country, driving down charging times and providing a choice of locations. Our charging network in Europe is expanding and I’m delighted to be now bringing it to the UK.”

Mohammed Patel, group head of energy and sustainability, EG Group, added: “We have some of the largest sites in our industry, allowing space for the inclusion of electric vehicle charging stations and the co-existence of charging stations and traditional fuel pumps. By offering an electric charging proposition in partnership with E.ON, we bring together their expertise in designing, installing and operating charge points with our knowledge and understanding of forecourt operation.”
