European new car demand rises for second month running

However, total registrations last month of 1,004,935 units were still the second lowest level to date for a month of October.

Year-to-date figures also continued to show decline, with a figure of -3.1% for the first ten months of the year, amounting to 10,006,807 units.

Most major markets performed strongly in October, ranging from +2.3% in Germany to +2.6% in France, +4.0% in the UK and +34.4% in Spain. Italy was the only major market to face a downturn (-5.6%).

The results were more diverse however for the year to date, with Spain and the UK putting in positive performances of +1.1% and +10.2% respectively while demand declined in Germany (-5.2%), France (-7.4%) and Italy (-8.0%).
