North American public fast charging network EVgo is deploying new automatic charging across all its CCS chargers.

EVgo has more than 1,100 public fast chargers in 34 states in North America

Dubbed Autocharge, the system instantly recognises a customer’s vehicle and initiates automatic charging after a one-time registration. It’s being launched on EVgo’s dedicated fast charging network for members of General Motors’ Maven Gig electric car sharing service; it will be rolled out nationwide by the end of 2019 to all EVgo account holders with a CCS charger-compatible vehicle.

The new functionality means EVgo-registered customers can start a fast charging session in seconds without the need to open the EVgo app or swipe an RFID or credit card and is being rolled out ahead of the industry-wide implementation of the ISO 15118 ‘Plug&Charge’ standard, which is in development but not yet scheduled for launch by automakers.
