First European Conference on Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans announced

By / 10 years ago / News / No Comments

The conference, entitled “Planning for a Liveable City”, follows the announcements made by Siim Kallas, vice president of the EU Commission, when publishing the Urban Mobility Package in December 2013: ‘Addressing the problems of urban mobility is one of the great challenges in transport today. With coordinated action we can be more successful. Local authorities are the key decision makers. They are best placed to take important local decisions, but they should benefit from support at national and EU level.’

Organised by the Platform on Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans, the conference offers mobility planners and implementers from all over Europe an opportunity to learn about the latest developments in the field of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans, attend workshops on hot topics in urban mobility planning and find out what European projects have to offer for local and regional authorities.

The conference will offer a creative environment to explore how planning can contribute to developing liveable cities. Participants can learn and bring in their own ideas and experiences in parallel workshops covering a wide array of themes.

Themes discussed at the conference include:

  • Citizen Participation
  • Auditing Procedures
  • SUMP Impact Evaluation
  • Sector integration
  • Integration of transport forms and modes
  • Austerity and urban mobility planning
  • The role of national actions to promote and support the uptake of SUMPs
  • Member States and regional actions to encourage local authorities to prepare SUMPs
  • Urban mobility planning in cities and towns below 100,000 inhabitants

The conference programme and details on how to register for the event can be found at http://eltis.org/1st_european_conference_on_sump.html

The conference will be held in English. Attendance is free of charge.
