Ford Pro’s Transit City chassis cab has made its global debut at IAA Transportation 2026, delivering a versatile, conversion-ready electric platform tailored for urban businesses.

The Transit City joins the Ford Pro One-Stop Shop range with box body, dropside and racked panel van conversions

Premiered following the digital launch of the Transit City panel van in L1H1 and L2H2 form earlier this year, it marks the first-ever one-tonne electric chassis from Ford, developed for easy factory-approved conversions.

The Transit City is designed as a “cost-effective, right-sized electric van specifically for urban companies who need to futureproof their business against rising costs, clean air zones and other increased operating restrictions”.

Built on a dedicated EV platform, the Transit City is produced in collaboration with Jiangling Motors Corporation (JMC), Ford’s long-standing joint-venture partner in China. It sits between the existing Ford E-Transit Courier and E-Transit Custom in terms of pricing, bridging the gap to offer a highly accessible entry point for commercial electric fleets.

The powertrain features a 150hp front-mounted motor fed by a 56kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery for a targeted range of 158 miles (254km) while supporting a payload of up to 1,275kg.

The chassis cab was refined using lessons from larger Transits and features optimised chassis rails, standardised bolt patterns and clear no-drill zones to simplify conversion and result in cost-effective, reliable and capable finished vehicles for customers.

The chassis cab launches with the most common conversion types – box body and dropside, plus a racked panel van – as part of Ford Pro’s One-Stop Shop range so customers can order a vehicle ready for work directly from their Transit Centre with a single invoice and matched warranty.

Businesses with more specialist requirements can work with Ford Pro Special Vehicles and its 200-strong converter network in Europe to develop bespoke solutions.

The Transit City Box Van is converted by leading body builder Scattolini, combining the cargo volume of a traditional box van with a low floor, removing the need for a tail lift. Total load volume is 10.4m3 with up to 1,120kg payload capacity. It’s fitted with twin rear doors with a recessed lock and interior grab handle to make access simple and there’s also a side door. Customers can specify load rails along the front and side walls to take nets or strap hooks when restraining loose cargo.

Ford has used advanced simulation to shape the aerodynamic fairing above the roof to smooth airflow, reduce drag and maximise range. The lightweight construction features durable materials on aluminium crossbeams, complemented by a translucent roof and energy-efficient LEDs to minimise lighting demands.

Next up is the Transit City Dropside, which features a durable Scattolini One-Stop Shop conversion engineered for heavy-duty trade and municipal work. Built to withstand forklift loading, it easily handles pallets of building materials, scaffolding, or heavy municipal equipment such as lawnmowers, generators and wood chippers.

It’s designed with a steel subframe using aluminium side and tailboards, and a 15mm thick ply load bed with a durable anti-slip, scratch-resistant resin finish. The cab protector is steel and offers a handy lashing point to restrain longer loads.

Maximum payload is up to 1,300kg. The body offers a maximum load length of 3,130mm, load width of 2,000mm and height of 1,504mm from load bed to the top of the cab protector. The sideboards and tailboards are 400mm high. Unladen, the loading height is 939mm.

Also on show at Hannover is a Transit City Racked Van, featuring One-Stop Shop racking from specialist firm Sortimo. It can be fitted to the L1 or L2 panel vans and uses flexible aluminium racking systems for secure tool and equipment storage.

Finally, Ford has debuted a one-off Transit City Refrigerated Box Concept, built in partnership with Ford Pro Convertor refrigeration experts Lecapitaine to showcase the Transit City’s electric power take-off (ePTO) feature that will be available in 2027. The ePTO system can provide up to 3kW of DC power.

The Transit City comes in a single, high-specification version that includes a 12-inch dashboard touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, keyless start and a heated driver’s seat.

It’s expected to deliver significantly reduced servicing costs. Ford Pro says customers could save around 40% compared with an equivalent diesel van, supported by a two-year/unlimited distance service interval and the brand’s extensive European network of over 800 Transit Centres and around 500 Mobile Service vans.
