BYD Trucks Europe has signed a deal to fit its electric trucks with integrated telematics from Geotab.

BYD will equip its electric trucks imported to Europe with Geotab’s telematics hardware

The firm, part of Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD, will equip its electric trucks imported to Europe with Geotab’s telematics hardware that captures comprehensive vehicle data.

The collaboration will provide vehicle operators with a robust fleet management solution across Europe, delivering end-to-end connectivity that helps ensure data privacy and security within the region.

The comprehensive vehicle data from Geotab’s telematics hardware will be used by BYD Trucks Europe, with customer agreement, to enhance vehicle quality, maintenance and service management in a move to minimise both planned and unplanned downtime.

BYD Trucks Europe will also offer Geotab’s fleet telematics services to its customers, enabling transport companies to access valuable vehicle data insights for improved efficiency, operations, cost management and fleet sustainability.

The deal supports BYD Trucks’ expansion plans in Europe; its new electric truck and van range is centre stage of BYD’s work to deliver quieter cities, reduce air pollution and provide sustainability across a growing number of automotive markets.

Christoph Ludewig, VP leasing/rental/mobility and OEM of Geotab Europe, said: “Our role as a supplier to BYD Trucks Europe emphasises the trust placed in Geotab’s technology, which enables BYD Trucks Europe to optimise their own operations and provide exceptional services to their customers. This relationship with BYD Trucks Europe underscores our commitment to deliver top-tier fleet management solutions while ensuring data security and privacy. We are thrilled this opportunity will support the transformation to fleet electrification across Europe.”

BYD has also announced a partnership with leasing and mobility giant Ayvens this week, underpinning plans to drive take-up of its electric cars and LCVs in Europe.

The two firms have signed a memorandum of understanding to work together on funding and other services for corporate and retail customers in Europe.

The pact includes a cluster of tailored electric vehicle fleet solutions for international and local corporate clients at Ayvens – formerly ALD Automotive | LeasePlan. These range from advisory services and operational leases through to end-to-end charging services for BYD’s full range of electric vehicles.
