GM India record marginal increase in sales for October 2011
The company had recorded sales of 10,051 units in the corresponding month last year, General Motors India said in a statement.
During last month, the company sold 1,797 units of small car Spark, 5,328 units of hatchback Beat, 182 units of entry level sedan Aveo, 236 units of mid-sized sedan Optra and 732 units of luxury sedan Cruze.
The company also sold 1,687 units of multi-purpose vehicle Tavera, and 100 units of sports utility vehicle Captiva during the month.
P Balendran, GM India vice-president, said: ‘The market continues to remain sluggish due to unprecedented hikes in interest rates, fuel prices, commodity prices, growing inflation and negative market sentiments. These factors are putting lot of pressure on the automobile market.’
However, despite this, Balendran insists that the company have been able to grow sales on the back of their low-emission Beat Diesel model.
‘We have been able to sustain the growth primarily due to the good sales of Chevrolet Beat Diesel which continuesto be in good demand. We are planning to ramp up production of Beat Diesel to meet the growing demand for the product in the coming months," he added.
Other vehicles like Cruze and Tavera have also generated the level volumes on the expected lines.
