Ioniq Plug-in joins the hybrid and electric versions already on sale.

Part of Hyundai’s global sustainability strategy to launch 14 eco cars until 2020, the Ioniq Plug in combines the carmaker’s new 104bhp three-cylinder 1.6 GDI direct-injection petrol with a 60bhp electric motor powered by an 8.9 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery.

As a result, the Ioniq Plug-in has an official electric driving range up to 63km with CO2 emissions of 26g/km and fuel consumption to 1.1 l/100 km  according to provisional figures.

The front-wheel drive Ioniq Plug-in features a six-speed dual-clutch transmission, with different drive modes including a sport feature and driving info displayed via a seven-inch digital information cluster.

Onboard tech includes an eight-inch high resolution touchscreen including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless inductive charging, LIVE services for real-time traffic information as well as Hyundai Motor’s Lifetime Mapcare offering free annual map and software updates.

Active safety technologies include Autonomous Emergency Braking including pedestrian detection, Lane Keeping Assist System and Smart Cruise Control as standard features. Additionally customers can choose Blind Spot Detection including Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

Design is mainly carried over from the hybrid model but adds in LED headlamps and bespoke 16-inch wheels.

Hyundai also displayed its autonomous Ioniq concept at Geneva, which uses LiDAR technology along with a GPS antenna, high-definition mapping software and a blind spot detection radar alongside existing self-driving functionality from the production model, including the Smart Cruise Control system’s forward-facing radar and Lane Keeping Assist cameras, to help keep costs down.
