Italian government auctions off fleet vehicles on eBay

By / 10 years ago / News / No Comments

Announced by the Government on 12th March, the auction has already seen 151 cars go on sale including two BMWs, two Alfa Romeos and two Lancias from the Interior Ministry as well as Maseratis owned by the Defence Ministry and a couple of Jaguars, with more ‘non-essential’ cars to follow in the coming weeks.

The auction follows the appointment of Matteo Renzi as prime minister and comes as the Government looks to cut costs, including its executive cars, which are seen as ‘hateful’ by Italians in the country’s economic crisis.

In total 1,500 “blue” cars (chauffeur-driven cars used for politicians and state officials) will be sold, as announced by Matteo Renzi on 12th March.
