Lepas, the nascent ‘elegant mobility’ brand from Chery International, has confirmed the debut of its new L4 EV at Auto China 2026 tomorrow, marking an important step in the brand’s global rollout.

The fully electric variant of the small SUV launches in the UK early 2027 as the brand’s third model on these shores alongside the flagship L8 five-seat SUV that’s due Q3 and the L6 SUV confirmed last week with plug-in hybrid and pure EV power. Lepas has said that the UK will play a key role in its global strategy.

The L4 EV, which is expected to be joined by a petrol version, is presented under the theme ‘Elegance Moves the World’ and introduces Lepas’ approach to modern electric mobility, combining design, intelligent technology and everyday usability in a compact, city-focused crossover.

Uncovered earlier this year, Lepas joins the existing Omoda, Jaecoo and Chery brands in the UK as Chery International continues to expand its UK line-up.

The Lepas branding is a portmanteau of ‘Leopard’, ‘Leap’ and ‘Passion’, and Chery says the new marque is on a “global journey to become the preferred brand for an elegant lifestyle”.

Lepas is built around three core pillars – Leopard Aesthetics, Elegant Technology and Exquisite Space – and, according to the company, differentiates itself through its design language, electrified powertrain systems, intelligent cockpit and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), delivering a refined and composed driving experience.

Lepas says the L4 EV is a city-friendly crossover designed for modern urban lifestyles, offering agility, comfort and everyday practicality. Its design reflects Lepas’ ‘Leopard Aesthetics’ philosophy, with sculpted surfaces, distinctive lighting and a confident, composed stance.

Lepas is keeping full details under wraps for now but says the L4 EV will integrate intelligent in-car technologies designed to enhance convenience and connectivity, supporting the needs of modern urban lifestyles.

Gary Lan, CEO of Lepas UK, said: “The debut of the Lepas L4 EV represents a significant moment for our brand as we take the next step in our global journey and begin to build real momentum in international markets, including the UK.

“This is not just the introduction of a new model, but a clear signal of our long-term ambition. As we establish Lepas in the UK, we are focused on delivering a new kind of ownership experience – one that combines design, technology and a deep understanding of how customers want to live and move today.

“The UK will play a key role in our global strategy, and moments such as this are important in establishing Lepas as a brand with a clear identity, strong direction and the confidence to do things differently.”

The carmaker will also unveil its global New Energy Vehicle (NEV) strategy at Auto China 2026 (Beijing Auto Show), underpinned by Chery Group’s global R&D capabilities and the dedicated LEX intelligent New Energy Platform. The brand is targeting multiple segments, from compact models to mid- and large-size vehicles, as it builds a “cohesive” global line-up.
