Mokka & Insignia gain new Opel “whisper diesels”
The changes see the Mokka gain the 136PS 1.6 CDTI four-cylinder unit for an entry-level price of €24,685. The unit will replace the 1.7 CDTI, bringing more power and torque – up 6PS and 20Nm, respectively – as well as significantly lower fuel consumption. The 1.6 CDTI Mokka consumes 4.1 l/100 km over the combined cycle while emitting only 109g/km CO2. This is almost 0.5 l/100 km less fuel and 11 g/km less CO2 than the unit it replaces.
The Mokka 1.6 CDTI accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 9.9 seconds, with maximum speed of 191kph.
Meanwhile the Insignia sedan will be available with a 170PS 2.0-litre turbo from €29,895 (RRP including VAT in Germany). This unit brings a 14% rise in torque with a figure of 400Nm from 1,750 to 2,500 rpm, while power is up 4% to 170PS at 3,750 rpm. Top speed is 225kph – an increase of 5kph – and the sedan accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 9.0 seconds – almost half a second quicker than its predecessor.
The new engines also bring emission levels comparable to those of a gasoline engine, including for nitrogen oxides. The 1.6 CDTI in the Mokka uses a Lean NOx Trap (LNT), an exhaust after-treatment system upstream of the diesel particulate filter that captures and removes nitrogen oxides (NOx) from the exhaust gases without the use of additives.
The Insignia comes with Opel’s BlueInjection selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system, which removes nitrogen oxide from the engine’s exhaust gases.
The all-new 1.6 CDTI Mokka is available with front-wheel drive and six-speed manual or automatic gearbox. The four-wheel drive comes with a six-speed manual gearbox. The Insignia sedan and Sports Tourer with the new 2.0-litre turbo diesel are available with a six-speed gearbox and front or four-wheel drive.
