The new arrival shows the latest evolution of the 3008 model line, which had already been reinvented from MPV to SUV for the second generation and is a best-seller for the brand.

The third-generation 3008 builds on this, adopting a rakish new fastback design and gaining a fully electric model for the first time. The line-up will also include hybrids and plug-in hybrids, plus one powertrain for international markets, but for now the focus is on the E-3008.

It will be available with three powertrains. The entry-level ‘Range’ model comes with a single 210hp motor on the front axle and a 73kWh battery, giving a provisional 525km (326-mile) WLTP range. A Dual Motor version will also be offered, featuring the same battery and official range but with 320hp of power and 509Nm of torque. The Long Range version moves up to a 230hp single motor and 98kWh battery and has the headline 700km (435-mile) range.

The new E-3008 will be able to charge at up to 160kW DC, enabling the battery to be recharged from 20% to 80% in 30 minutes for the standard range version, and less than 30 minutes for the Long-Range version.

For AC charging, an 11kW three-phase charger will come as standard, with a 22kW three-phase charger as an option.

Four driving modes will be on offer, along with three-stage regenerative braking. The E-3008 will also offer vehicle-to-load charging, enabling drivers to power electrical devices via the battery, supplying up to 3kW and 16A.

Slightly larger than before, the new E-3008 will provide the same 520 litres of space as the previous 3008 despite its new coupé shape. It also debuts latest styling, including the brand’s three-claw light signature – upgraded to 3D on GT versions.

The interior features a curved 21-inch panoramic screen on higher-trim models as part of the new i-Cockpit set-up, along with ambient LED lighting and ‘i-Toggle’ fully customisable touch-sensitive buttons that can be programmed to provide quick access to 10 of the user’s favourite functions.

Two trim levels will be offered: Allure and GT. Allure comes with LED headlamps with new Pixel adaptive technology, rear camera, two 10-inch digital screens integrated into a single panel in the panoramic display, compact steering wheel with new controls, 19-inch alloys and leather-effect and fabric upholstery. It also comes as standard with the i-Connect system, which offers full connectivity thanks to wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto mirroring functions.

The GT adds in two-tone paintwork with a gloss black roof, 20-inch alloys, the 21-inch panoramic screen, i-Connect Advanced with TomTom connected navigation system, heated steering wheel, ventilated and massaging front seats, Alcantara upholstery and a clean cabin air treatment system. Options include a new VisioPark 360° parking system.

Safety technologies include automatic emergency braking with collision warning, active lane departure warning with lane departure correction, driver attention alert, extended recognition with digital display of road signs, long-range blind spot monitoring, hill descent control and advanced traction control.

Pricing and full equipment details are yet to be announced, alongside hybrid and plug-in hybrid specifications.

The new E-3008 will be produced at the Sochaux plant in France and will support the brand’s plans to offer the “widest range of electric cars of any generalist brand in Europe” by 2025 and to be fully electric by the end of the decade.

Linda Jackson, CEO of Peugeot, said: “The launch of the next-level E-3008 is a major step in Peugeot’s radical transformation into an alluring 100% electric brand that sets new benchmarks for design, driving pleasure and efficiency. With its exterior design, spectacular Peugeot Panoramic i-Cockpit, driving pleasure and unprecedented electric performance, the next-level E-3008 ushers Peugeot into a new era as the French brand offering the widest range of mainstream electric vehicles on the market.”
