Nissan Hyper Punk concept is electric crossover for content creators and artists

Nissan has content creators and artists in its sights with its latest concept unveiling for the Japan Mobility Show.

Previewed ahead of next week’s event in Tokyo, the Hyper Punk is an all-electric compact crossover that “inspires self-expression in all worlds” with its studio on wheels approach.

As with the brand’s three concepts already revealed in the run-up to Tokyo, it uses the word Hyper to express “heightened excitement” and is based around a vehicle-to-everything (V2X) architecture. This time, the V2X functionality is intended to ensure users can charge their devices anytime and anywhere, while also sharing the vehicle’s energy with collaborators and at local community events, reinforcing the mobile studio approach.

The exterior uses multifaceted and polygonal surfaces, combined with tones in the silver paint to shift tones depending on how and where you look it. Nissan says the design goes against minimalist trends and “represent the user’s desire for self-expression and breaking conventional wisdom”. Headlights, tail lamps, and rear design emphasise the polygonal shapes and are integrated into the body surface.

The cabin draws on origami-styled elements to mirror Japanese design and “create an interior space where digital and art are fused together”. Onboard cameras can capture the scenery around the car and use AI to convert to manga-style scenery or graphic patterns – which can then be projected on a three-screen display arranged around the driver.

The concept also offers internet connectivity able to link to occupants’ devices and creative equipment, enabling users to access information or create on the go. AI and headrest biosensors mean the Hyper Punk can detect the driver’s mood and automatically select the right music and lighting, “boosting” energy and creativity.

It joins the Nissan concepts already previewed for Tokyo, which include an urban crossover, a rugged sports SUV for outdoor enthusiasts and a people carrier with fully autonomous driving technology.

All four are now being displayed on a 3D digital billboard in the Shinjuku district of Tokyo ahead of the opening of the Japan Mobility Show on 25 October.

The quartet will also be available on the Fortnite game under the name “Electrify the World” once the Tokyo event gets underway.
