Nissan revives Pixo name for all-new electric city car

Nissan has officially confirmed that its upcoming entry-level electric city car for Europe will be named the Pixo.

The Pixo marks Nissan’s strategic return to the small city car market

Announced on 9 September 2026 to coincide with World EV Day, the A-segment compact vehicle marks the Japanese carmaker’s strategic return to the small city car market and is scheduled for a full public debut on 23 September 2026.

The Pixo nameplate was last used by Nissan between 2009 and 2013 for a budget city car that was a rebadged version of the Suzuki Alto. This zero-emission revival scales up Nissan’s European electric portfolio, sitting underneath the electric Micra and the Leaf.

Previewed in a teaser video, the Pixo is being co-developed under the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. Rather than an independent platform, the EV shares its underlying architecture with its alliance siblings, as with the Renault 5 and Nissan Micra.

The electric city car is based on Renault’s AmpR Small platform, which is shared with the upcoming Renault Twingo E-Tech.

However, Nissan said the Pixo will bring a “fresh, fun character to the compact EV segment”.

The brand added that: “Created for modern urban life, it combines compact dimensions with intuitive technology and distinctive Nissan design, making everyday city driving easy and enjoyable.”

To maximise cost efficiencies, the Pixo will be manufactured alongside the new Twingo at Renault’s production facility in Novo Mesto, Slovenia.

It’s pitched as a “new and more accessible option for everyday electric driving”. Nissan is heavily rumoured to be targeting a highly competitive entry price of around £17,000 to £18,000, positioning it as a direct rival to low-cost urban EVs.

Full technical details will be announced on 23 September, but it’s expected to get the same 27.5kWh battery pack as the Renault Twingo, yielding a city-friendly range of around 160 miles, paired with an 80hp electric motor.

More details will be revealed when the Pixo makes its full debut on 23 September 2026.
