Opel/Vauxhall reveals third-gen Vivaro van

Opel/Vauxhall has unveiled its new Vivaro van, which will arrive in showrooms from late summer with an electric version due 2020.

Available to order from February, the third-generation van will be built at Vauxhall’s Luton plant, helping to safeguard 1,250 jobs. Investment in the new vehicle will help increase the plant’s production capacity to 100,000 units per year.

Making its world premiere at the CV Show in Birmingham in the UK on 30 April 2019, the Vivaro will be based on PSA Group’s EMP2 platform and available, depending on the market, in three lengths (4.6m, 4.95m and 5.3m) and body styles including panel van, double cab for up to six occupants and a platform chassis. It brings a payload of up to 1,400kg, 200kg more than its predecessor while the maximum trailer load is 2,500kg, 500kg more than the outgoing model.

Objects up to 4.02m long can be stowed securely in the 5.30m version thanks to Flex Cargo, an optional load-through flap under the front passenger seat. Adding to its office on wheels credentials, the FlexCargo also allows the back of the middle seat to fold down to become a table for documents, a notebook or a tablet.

Engine line-up is yet to be announced but the brand has said it’ll offer an electric model in 2020 in line with its post-takeover PACE! performance plan.

IntelliGrip traction control is available andOpel will also offer the new Vivaro with all-wheel drive from Dangel as soon as the order books open.

Onboard technologies include a Head Up Display, Lane Keep Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition, Drowsiness Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Alert and Automatic Emergency Braking. The Multimedia and Multimedia Navi infotainment systems come with a large seven-inch touchscreen. Both feature phone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Multimedia Navi additionally features European navigation with 3D view.
