Smart is expanding on its Ready to Drop+ logistics trials with a new project in Hamburg that enables Smart cars to be used as a parcel delivery box.

The pilot test is being run with cooperation partner Liefery and means that parcels can be delivered to the boot of the vehicle anywhere within the city free of charge. The service is powered by an app developed by the Smart Lab brand in cooperation with a personal car boot ID that provides keyless access. Customers can choose a date and one of three time slots over the day for the delivery. Once the parcel has been delivered, the customer is notified and the access authorisation expires immediately.

The project builds on the carmaker’s existing in-car delivery tests with DHL in Stuttgart, Cologne, Bonn and Berlin, which has seen a four-figure number of packages delivered to vehicles in these cities.
