Public transport will make the difference to climate change, says SkedGo

Work to reduce global carbon emissions must be centred on public transport and urban mobility, according to Mobility as a Service (MaaS) tech firm SkedGo.

Sandra Witzel, head of marketing at SkedGo

With transport responsible for nearly 30% of European carbon emissions, the firm says that it’s crucial that governments, manufacturers and transport authorities act now to persuade passengers away from private cars and towards public transport and shared forms of mobility.

Speaking at the recent Smart City and Urban Mobility Summit 2019 in London, Sandra Witzel, head of marketing at SkedGo, said: “MaaS works to simplify the health, financial and environmental benefits of greener travel and by doing so, travellers are more likely to consider their transport decisions.”

The firm’s MaaS platform covers hundreds of cities worldwide and provides organisations with the building blocks to rapidly build their own multi- and mixed-modal MaaS offering, including journey and event planning, ticket purchase, parking and car hire, as well as complete corporate mobility solutions.

Witzel added: “MaaS provides a huge opportunity to change our interaction with transport for the better, embracing the benefits of shared and sustainable modes. With the right infrastructure, integrated mobility will benefit passengers through connected, seamless journeys while reducing CO2 levels to fight climate change. We’re already seeing the benefits of MaaS across Europe and look forward to seeing more cities adopt new mobility models.”
