Renault has revealed its Kaptur crossover, which goes on sale this summer in Russia, based on the European Captur model.

The carmaker said the new model, which will be manufactured at its Moscow factory, will play a part in driving Groupe Renault’s growth at a global level, including Russia. It added that there are no plans for this vehicle to be sold in Europe.

The carmaker said the longer, lower dimensions of the Kaptur were designed specifically to meet local needs. It measures 4,333mm long, 1,813mm wide and 1,613mm high, with a 2,674mm wheelbase, making it 211mm longer, 35mm wider and 47mm higher with a 68mm longer wheelbase.

Unlike its European cousin, it also offers a four-wheel drive transmission incorporating a locking centre differential to help drivers cope with the country’s harsh climate, along with approach and departure angles of 20 and 31 degrees respectively, plus record ground clearance of 204mm (unladen) and beefed up suspension.

Other key features aimed at Russia and CIS countries are Renault’s Remote Engine Start system, heated front seats and a heated windscreen.

Boot volume is 387 litres and carrying capacity increases to 1,200 litres with the 60/40-split bench in the fully folded position. It also offers a wide tailgate aperture (1,002mm) and additional boot lighting.

“To design Renault Kaptur, we have mixed the best of Renault’s eye-catching design with a specific attention to Russian needs for off-road abilities, travelling comfort and versatility,” said Laurens van den Acker, corporate design, vice president, Groupe Renault, at the model’s presentation in Moscow. “It is a genuine crossover, with a robust, expressive design.”

Equipment on offer includes keyless entry, ignition and locking for all versions. Along with an optional Media Nav system that includes a seven-inch touch screen display, a radio and Bluetooth connectivity.

The Kaptur will go on sale this summer.
