Shell unites NewMotion and Greenlots under new global e-mobility brand

NewMotion and its US-based counterpart Greenlots are to come together under a single Shell Recharge Solutions brand from early 2022, tying together Shell’s global charging offering under one identity.

As Shell Recharge Solutions, the businesses will continue to support customers in their transition to electric mobility

By combining the offers into a single global e-mobility brand, Shell Recharge Solutions will be able to make the most of the existing capabilities and drive further innovation to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles across the board.

NewMotion CEO Mel Lane explained: “The world is preparing for a massive uptake of EVs over the next decade. By 2030 it is expected that there will be at least 125 million plug-in vehicles on the roads, compared to just 10 million today. This massive scale-up demands an end-to-end approach to charging infrastructure to meet the driver needs. By making charging simpler and investing in smart technologies, we will help enable the mass adoption of EVs and to drive towards a low-carbon world.”

The move follows Shell’s acquisitions of NewMotion in 2017 and Greenlots in 2019, and will create a simpler EV charging offering that combines NewMotion’s expertise in home charging and roaming services and Greenlots’ expertise in charging networks and fleet services. Together with Shell Recharge’s public fast charging network – planned to expand to 500,000 charge points by 2025 – this will provide holistic support for customers in their transition to electric mobility.

Both hardware and software services will be branded as Shell Recharge, running alongside the Shell Recharge public charging network and existing white label solutions.

In the Europe, NewMotion’s legal name will become Shell EV Charging Solutions Europe, while Greenlots becomes Shell EV Charging Solutions Americas.

Going forward the team will also build on its recent partnerships with brands such as LeasePlan, BMW and Aldi, and reaching its milestone of providing access to 250k+ public charge points in over 35 countries in Europe.
