Škoda has previewed its upcoming Elroq fully electric compact SUV with a teaser image.

Making its world premiere this autumn, the Elroq expands the Czech brand’s battery electric vehicle portfolio into the strategically important compact SUV segment.

The Elroq will be the third Škoda model based on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB modular electric car platform, joining the Enyaq and the Enyaq Coupé.

It provides an “electric counterpart” to the Karoq, although it’s not known if it will officially replace it. Battery and range details haven’t been revealed yet either.

It’s the first Škoda model to adopt the brand’s new Modern Solid design language, using a minimalist exterior that “combines robustness, functionality and authenticity, while conveying a sense of safety and strength”. Key features include a split headlight design and the Tech-Deck Face; a modern, recognisable reinterpretation of the traditional Škoda grille, with a flatter and wider appearance. It also comes with sports large wheels and LED Matrix headlights, and is the first Škoda to display the brand’s lettering prominently on the bonnet.

The carmaker also says the all-new compact SUV will feature a generously sized interior and “exceptional practicality”, in line with its commitment to comfort and functionality.

The arrival of the Elroq spearheads a new wave of electric launches for Škoda, which will deliver six battery-electric models in the coming years. Other models included in the offensive are the entry-level Epiq crossover, previewed in a design study and due to be fully unveiled in 2025. It will team up practicality, spaciousness and affordable pricing, with the latter expected to come in at around €25,000 – some £21,400.

Oliver Stefani, head of Škoda Auto Design, said: “At Škoda, design is an important part of the brand identity and one of the main factors of our success. The continuous development of key visual elements is both a demanding and exciting task. For this reason, my team and I are thrilled to present the preview of the first Škoda model to incorporate the new Modern Solid design language such as the Tech-Deck Face and a more robust overall look.

“Moreover, it is the first car in our portfolio to feature Škoda lettering on its sharply contoured bonnet. No doubt, our brand-new Elroq sets a new tone and is a real eye-catcher.”

The Elroq gets a full premiere this autumn and is expected to launch in 2025.
