Škoda Kamiq to rival Nissan Juke

Škoda is to name its forthcoming European urban crossover Kamiq as it positions the new model neatly within its SUV line-up.

Škoda has published a new teaser image of its forthcoming urban crossover as it reveals the Kamiq name

Sitting under the Karoq and Kodiaq, the model continues the current SUV range’s focus on starting names with a K and ending with a Q.

It also fits in with the tribal naming of the current models; the word Kamiq – already used for a different Škoda SUV model in China – comes from the language of the Inuit people living in northern Canada and Greenland and describes something that fits as perfectly as a second skin in every situation.

The name ties in with the positioning of the model as a compact and lifestyle-orientated entry-level model for the European market. The Kamiq has been conceived to combine the agility and handling of a compact car with the traditional advantages of an SUV – higher seating position, better visibility, easier to get in and out, and higher ground clearance.

Few other details are available but Škoda has said that the new model – which debuts at March’s Geneva Motor Show – will get new assistance systems, generous space and its trademark ‘Simply Clever’ features.
