Targa Telematics has been recognised for its mobility work in a new report by analytics company Berg Insight.

According to Berg Insight, by 2025, carsharing services will count for 971,000 vehicles (+16% yearly), with some 190.3 million members (yearly growth of +21.5%)

The report looks at the carsharing telematics sector, the major players – both actual carsharing firms and the telematics companies supporting them – and the market trends.

According to Berg Insight, despite the global pandemic, in 2020 carsharing services have grown by 10% and will continue to grow steadily in the next five years.

The company estimates that by 2025, carsharing services will count for 971,000 vehicles (+16% yearly), with some 190.3 million members (yearly growth of +21.5%).

Meanwhile, the corporate carsharing telematics market is estimated to reach about 135,000 vehicles in 2025. Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific so far represent the vast majority of all carsharing programmes and active members from an international perspective. The front-running markets include Russia, Germany, Italy, the US, South Korea, China and Japan.

The report also explores the telematics systems and smartphones that are key enablers of carsharing services. It finds that software platforms for carsharing have evolved from basic booking systems to complete IT systems that can support all the operational activities of a car sharing organisation, ranging from management of in-vehicle equipment, real-time fleet management, booking management, billing as well as operations supervision and improvement via dashboards and data analytics.

Carsharing telematics specialists mentioned include Targa Telematics, which was founded in the early 1990s and entered the carsharing market in 2014, particularly targeting companies, councils and renters who want to implement shared mobility solutions to optimize their car fleet mobility, improve viability on their territory and reduce CO2 emissions. The following year, Targa Telematics introduced keyless technology to enable digital renting solutions and, in 2018, peer-to-peer carsharing. Its work includes with firms such as Sixt and Leasys. In 2020 the latter launched two new products based on Targa Telematics technology: its I-link and Leasys Mile solutions.

Targa’s work on mobility lies across the board; not just with cars.

Roberto Bordin, smart mobility product owner of Targa Telematics, explained: “Targa Telematics approach to smart mobility is not limited to car management, but it is extended to every type of vehicle, with specific modules for electric ones. Additionally, we provide consultancy that helps mobility operators identify the best conditions to successfully implement smart mobility services.”

From a technological perspective, Targa Telematics offers mobility operators solutions for users, car fleet management and for monitoring their performance. The solution includes, other than the platform, web and mobile applications for booking and the use of service for the end users. Additionally, Targa Telematics offers a 24/7 call centre to support end users.

Its ability to quickly deploy solutions is also helping businesses, ranging  from corporate mobility to public transport solutions and for short-term rental mobility operators.

Bordin added: “The speed of implementation and the profitability enabled by the most suitable mobility platform become a crucial asset to compete and win on the market of these new services offered to customers, always in rapid evolution.”
