TomTom launches navigation app for Android devices

The new app, which is set for release in October, will feature TomTom navigation, map and traffic technologies such as on-board maps, IQ Routes and HD Traffic as well as speed camera alerts, advanced lane guidance and spoken street names. The result, the firm claims, will give Android users the most up-to-date map available and be able to calculate the fastest routes and deliver the most accurate arrival times.

Corinne Vigreux, managing director at TomTom, said: 'We aim to make TomTom content and services available to as many devices and platforms as we can. Bringing TomTom navigation to Android smartphones is, therefore, a significant milestone for us.'

The launch of the app follows several fleet focused launches from the firm in recent weeks. It recently launched the TomTom Hands-free Car Kit for Smartphones, while its PRO 5150 Truck Live device gives vehicle-specific guidance throughout Europe and can be linked to the firm’s WebFleet fleet management solution.
