Recalled models total 27 and include the RAV4, Hilux, Yaris and Urban Cruiser models, with issues including problems with the spiral cable assembly connected to the driver’s airbag.

There are also potential problems with seat rails, steering columns, windscreen wipers and engine starters.

Toyota said it was not aware of any vehicle crashes, injuries or fatalities caused by these conditions.

The carmaker said there no reports of any accidents, injuries or fatalities linked to these issues although there had been two reports of fires in connection with the engine starter problem.

The latest recall is the fifth in recent months and adds to concerns over Toyota’s efforts to rebuild its reputation following major issues with recalls in 2010.
