UK event to showcase “lateral control technologies” for vehicles

According to forecasts, by 2025, at least half the travel on Europe’s roads will be in vehicles that can ‘read’ the road ahead including markings and signs using so-called ‘lateral control technologies’, that stop the vehicle deviating out of the lane – incidents which currently account for one in five of all serious crashes.

Working with Thatcham Research, the motor insurance safety and security experts, the Road Safety Markings Association (RSMA) will be demonstrating systems which intervene, and will be key to future vehicle safety, at this week’s “Seeing Is Believing” event at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground in Leicestershire on 19 and 20 November.

‘Current and emerging vehicle technology must be able to work safely with the road, which means well-maintained road markings are critical to safety,’ said George Lee, national director of the RSMA. ‘White lines are highly cost effective and even the most sophisticated markings are readily available in the UK market.’

The RSMA/Thatcham Research demonstrations are on 19 November at 10:30. 13:30 and 17:00; and on 20 November at 12:30, 13:30 and 17:00 hrs.

In addition, the RSMA and RSSA (Road Safety Surfacing Association) will also be demonstrating skid resistance testing on both days at 12:30 and 15:00 hrs.

There is no charge for attendance but visitors must register.
