Mercedes has given its EQS luxury EV an extensive makeover for the 2024 model year, increasing range and adding in styling and equipment changes.

The EQS was already one of the longest-range electric cars on sale and the updated version adds to this thanks to a new battery pack.

Replacing the previous 108.4kWh pack, the new 118kWh battery means the EQS 450+ single-motor version will be able to do over 800km (TBC) on the WLTP cycle under a single charge. A heat pump now comes as standard too, increasing climate comfort and efficiency.

The changes will also roll out on Mercedes’ other EV models, including the EQS SUV and the EQE/EQE SUV.

Mercedes has also increased the braking recuperation level of the EQS, further enabling longer range. It’s also paid heed to the less frequent use of brake pads in EVs compared to combustion models, which is due to the high proportion of recuperation, and a new function will maintain the brake system by automatically applying the pads to the discs from time to time.

Styling changes deliver an upright version of the brand’s three-point star on the bonnet and chrome details on the grille. The interior also gains chrome flashes and Nappa leather piping.

Equipment also gains new highlights – in particular the standard fitment of the MBUX Hyperscreen. This merges three displays into a screen bank that’s over 1.4m wide and was previously only available on higher trims as a £7,995 option.

The brand has also enhanced rear seat comfort; backrests can be inclined further and get an extra 5mm of padding. The optional Extended Rear Luxury Lounge Pack enhances this, enabling the passenger seat to be folded forward and the backrest in the rear can be adjusted up to 38 degrees, giving more space.

The new 2024 Mercedes EQS arrives later this year. Prices will be announced closer to launch.
