Volkswagen delivery-to-car-boot service to roll out to UK in 2020
Volkswagen is to bring its We Deliver car-boot delivery service to the UK in 2020, building on current trials in Berlin.
Announced by the brand in August 2018 as part of its new ‘Volkswagen We’ digital services and solutions, the delivery-to-car-boot service is already being trialled in Germany and is now being opened up to UK partners.
Focused on both convenience and security, the new service will allow users to register their Volkswagen as a delivery location for a parcel or service, with the courier or delivery personnel being granted one-off access to opening and closing of the vehicle. To date, 300 people across Berlin are already benefiting from the convenience of the service ahead of its full launch there and the roll-out to the UK is expected to bring a far-reaching network of delivery points.
As well as aiding parcel deliveries, the service can be used for other means such as the collection and subsequent dropping-off of dry cleaning and the return of parcels.
We Deliver will be activated in vehicles that have either the We Connect Plus or the Car-Net ‘Service & Security Plus’ package, available where the owner has registered on the Volkswagen We platform via the We Connect app. To be eligible for the scheme, cars must have been produced after 2 January 2019 or 2 July 2018 for the Touareg.
Andrew Savvas, managing director of Volkswagen UK, said: “We Deliver adds another useful function to the vehicle when it is not actually being driven. It’s another example of Volkswagen maximising convenience for our customers.”
