Webfleet and Peregrine.ai develop Visual Intelligence solution for fleet safety
Webfleet has teamed up with Peregrine.ai, a Berlin-based startup transforming mobility through AI-powered vision systems, to advance fleet safety technology.
The solution teams up the Webfleet Video telematics solution with Peregrine’s Visual Intelligence to deliver added insights for fleets.
This paid service upgrade enables Webfleet Video to not only see the road but to understand driving context.
On top of the existing AI-enabled capabilities of Webfleet Video, it now detects hazards such as red light violations, adverse weather conditions, slippery roads and size or weight restrictions. Visual Intelligence also ‘translates’ video footage into structured, clear insights, cutting time spent by fleet managers reviewing and interpreting footage and helping them make faster, smarter decisions.
Conventional video telematics typically records when an event is triggered, but this new solution continuously detects hazards, giving the driver real-time environmental awareness.
By transforming visual data into real-time in-cabin alerts and actionable fleet insights, the system helps drivers avoid accidents and enables fleets to improve safety, compliance, and operational performance.
It can also be easily retrofitted into vehicles via an over-the-air update, helping to advance fleet safety without investing in new vehicles.
The new solution aligns with Webfleet’s work to help fleets reduce risk, support ESG goals, strengthen driver retention and manage rising insurance and liability costs. According to road safety economists, vehicle crashes cost up to 4.1% of European Global Domestic Product (GDP).
“This is a major step in our mission to make mobility safer and smarter,” said Jan-Maarten de Vries, president, fleet management solutions at Webfleet parent firm Bridgestone.
“Together with Peregrine.ai, we’re delivering a next-generation driver safety solution that goes far beyond traditional dashcams – detecting and contextualising road events and risks as they happen.”
“We’re proud to contribute our contextual AI technology to this collaboration,” added Steffen Heinrich, CEO of Peregrine.ai. “By making existing vehicles smarter with real-time insights, we’re helping fleets operate more safely and efficiently – at scale, and on the road today.”
This new service is currently being rolled out with select customers.
