Webfleet now able to link directly with electric vehicles

Webfleet is expanding its OEM.connect programme to support electric vehicles with in-depth insights.

As a first step, Webfleet customers that use Mercedes electric cars or vans can now get direct insights on charging and energy consumption

It means businesses with EVs can gain access to valuable telematics insights without installing additional hardware.

The first step in the expansion will provide charging and energy consumption data on Mercedes-Benz electric cars or vans, extending the existing collaboration between Webfleet and Mercedes-Benz Connectivity Services.

Data connections to EVs from other automakers will follow “in the near future”. This will build on the current OEM.connect programme, which enables fleets to draw on an extensive range of telematics data to reduce costs, encourage safer, more sustainable driving and maximise fleet performance.

The new EV connections will mean businesses with mixed or electric fleets will be able to access additional data insights on charging time, driving range, current battery status, energy consumption and more by simply entering the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

The insights will enable fleets to decide which vehicle is best suited for each job, plan routes, check battery status and manage charging options on a day-to-day basis.

Businesses will also have a longer-term overview with which to take action to maximise the sustainability and efficiency of their operation, while assuring data privacy.
