The brand will go live by the end of 2023 and will “create a powerful new identity from two highly reputed industry players”.

The ‘PowerUp 2026’ strategic plan has been published after ALD closed its €4.8bn (£4.2bn) acquisition of LeasePlan in May 2023, creating a leading global sustainable mobility player with a total managed fleet of 3.4 million vehicles worldwide.

The company said the combined business provides a “one-stop shop with the broadest client reach, geographical coverage and the largest distribution capabilities through more than 430 partnerships” – which makes it “best-placed to answer customers’ changing needs”.

ALD | LeasePlan now ranks as the leading global multi-brand and multi-channel car leasing player and is top in 29 countries, according to the firm. Its total fleet is said to be twice the size of its nearest competitor while the company also said it owns the largest multi-brand EV fleet in the world, at 428,000 vehicles, reflecting its leading role in the transition to sustainable mobility.

The new strategic plan significantly advances the ambitions stated in ALD’s previous ‘Move 2025’ strategic plan and will be shaped around four priorities: clients, operational efficiency, responsibility and profitability.

The plan highlights that the mobility sector is seeing strong and structural growth, driven by long-term “megatrends”. These include the transition from ownership to usership, which is expected to accelerate, lifting the European usership market from 4.9 million vehicles in 2021 to 9.5 million vehicles in 2030, which works out at +7.7% CAGR compared to 2021. All client segments are expected to grow, in particular the consumer market.

Demand for electrification is also set to accelerate – and the group is targeting for EVs to account for 50% of new car registrations by 2026, up from 28% in 2022. Its end-to-end solution will make it simple for clients to choose electric and the business envisages that 400,000 drivers will connect to its joint venture with ChargePoint, which will launch by the end of 2023.

‘PowerUp 2026’ supports this with ambitious decarbonisation objectives. ALD | LeasePlan plans to reduce the CO2 emissions of its running fleet to less than 90g/km on average by 2026 (compared to 112g/km in 2022) and to cut its internal CO2 emissions by 35% in 2026 vs. 2019.

Increasing digitalisation, emerging ecosystems and evolving competition will also create growth opportunities.

ALD | LeasePlan also expects that its earning assets will grow by +6% CAGR between 2023 and 2026, driven by higher-value vehicles (underpinned by the rising share of EVs in the funded fleet) and selective growth strategy to meet the group’s profitability targets.

Its Mobility as a Service (MaaS) platform, launched in 2022, is expected to reach 200,000 active users by 2026, reflects its strong ambition to lead the transition to sustainable mobility and go beyond electrification, into MaaS.

A detailed overview of ALD | LeasePlan’s ambitions and main strategic operational and financial objectives will be released on 21 September 2023 in Paris, presented by CEO Tim Albertsen and the management team.
