Ford is updating its E-Transit Custom to deliver improved driving range and charging times, while also debuting an all-wheel drive version.

The new battery pack boosts E-Transit Custom range to 373km

Launched in spring 2024 as the electric version of Europe’s bestselling van, the E-Transit Custom gains an upgraded battery pack that increases the useable battery capacity from 64kWh to 71kWh. The new pack will feature in vehicles built from early 2026 and boosts range by more than 10% – giving up to 231 miles (373km) between charges compared to 209 before. The E-Tourneo Custom people carrier, which uses the same powertrain as the E-Transit Custom, will also receive the enhanced battery pack for vehicles built from early 2026.

At the same time, Ford is also launching a new all-wheel drive (AWD) system for the E-Transit Custom. The optional AWD technology adds a front-mounted motor – in addition to the existing one for the rear wheels – and precisely controls the torque sent to all four wheels depending on the driving conditions. Customers can choose from three output levels depending on the series: 136hp (100kW), 218hp (160kW), or 286hp (210kW).

The AWD system can be specified with a full choice of E-Transit Custom bodystyles, including van, Kombi, double-cab-in-van and MultiCab.

It will also be available in combination with a wide selection of E-Transit Custom series, from the functional Trend and Limited models to the distinctive Trail, Sport and motorsport-inspired MS-RT variant. The 286hp powertrain is available exclusively on the Sport and MS-RT models.

The E-Tourneo Custom will also offer the AWD option, available with either the 218hp or 286hp outputs. The E-Tourneo Custom AWD will be available in a range of versions including Active, Sport, Titanium X, and MS-RT, with the more powerful 286hp version available as an option for the Sport, Titanium X and MS-RT series.

Ford is also uprating charging capabilities for its one-tonne electric van. For E-Transit Custom vans built from early 2026, a 10-80% charge using a 125kW DC fast charger will take approximately 29 minutes. That’s a 10-minute saving compared to before, and it means you can add around 68 miles (111km) of driving range in 10 minutes.

Current owners of E-Transit Custom vans will benefit from improvements too. New over-the-air (OTA) updates will enable DC fast charging upgrades for E-Transit Custom vans already on the road.

Owners will see the 10-80% charge time for their 64kWh (useable) battery pack reduced by approximately 14 minutes, bringing it down to about 25 minutes. Customers of existing E-Tourneo Custom vehicles will also see their DC fast charging times reduced via OTA.
