Kia has facelifted its Optima saloon and Sportswagon estate models with a new, lower-emission diesel and new mid-range petrol unit alongside new safety equipment.

The refreshed Kia Optima is due on sale across Europe in Q3 2018

Part of the line-up for the third-generation Ceed, the new 134bhp 1.6-litre CRDi diesel engine provides a replacement to the 1.7-litre CRDi engine and features Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) active emissions control technology said to significantly reduce emissions, although CO2 emissions have not yet been announced.

The engine range also gets the 178bhp 1.6-litre T-GDi petrol engine for the first time, providing a waypoint between the 161bhp 2.0-litre CVVL (Continuously-Variable Valve Lift) engine and the 242bhp 2.0-litre T-GDi in the Optima GT. The new unit is paired with Kia’s seven-speed double-clutch transmission, which comes with steering wheel-mounted shift paddles.

The Optima also debuts a new Drive Mode Selector with Eco, Comfort, Sport and Smart modes, and features Kia’s latest active safety and in-car connectivity technologies, including Driver Attention Warning and Lane Keeping Assist. It’s also available with a new high-resolution Around View Monitor parking camera and Kia’s latest 7.0- or 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, with navigation and Kia Connected Services powered by TomTom.

The car makes its debut at the 2018 Geneva International Motor Show and is due on sale across Europe in Q3 2018.
