Legendary Citroen 2CV to return as budget electric city car
Citroën is reviving the iconic 2CV as an affordable, all-electric city car.

The reborn electric 2CV is set to make its world debut as a prototype at the Paris Motor Show in October 2026
The plans were announced at last week’s Stellantis Investor Day where the French brand unveiled a shadowy teaser image of its upcoming, all-electric 2CV, which will sit under the ëC3 as a new entry-level EV.
Announced as part of the new Fastlane 2030 plan published at the Investor Day, the new model belongs to Stellantis’ newly announced ‘E-Car’ project. This initiative aims to address the downturn in the small affordable car segment in Europe in recent years while tying in with the EU’s plans for a new small EV class.
The teaser image indicates classic retro cues such as flared wheel arches, circular headlights, and an arched, ‘tin snail’ roofline, ahead of a full concept reveal in late 2026.
Xavier Chardon, Citroën CEO, said new 2CV will carry the original spirit forward – “not through nostalgia, but by reinventing its simplicity and accessibility for today’s world”.
He continued: “Electric. Essential. Affordable. Human. Just like the original once democratised mobility, the new 2CV will re-enchant electric mobility for a new generation through a highly desirable model.”
Citroën said the concept perfectly fits with the brand’s positioning as a leader in accessible electric mobility, offering greater freedom of movement and more value at an affordable price, while maintaining a strong identity and personality.
More details will be revealed at the Paris Motor Show in October 2026, when the reborn electric Citroën 2CV is set to make its world debut as a prototype.
