Motive, a US AI-powered telematics firm that’s recently launched in the UK, has appointed technology leader Meg Whitman to its board.

Meg Whitman joins Motive’s board

A former CEO of Hewlett-Packard and eBay, Whitman brings more than three decades of executive and public sector leadership experience.

She most recently served as US ambassador to Kenya from 2022 to 2024. Earlier in her career, she was president and chief executive of Hewlett-Packard Company from 2011 to 2015, where she also served as chairman of the board from 2014 to 2015. She also led eBay Inc as president and chief executive officer from 1998 to 2008.

“Meg’s track record of scaling global businesses at eBay and driving operational transformation at Hewlett-Packard will be invaluable as we extend our AI leadership, enter new markets and help our customers tackle their most complex challenges,” said Shoaib Makani, CEO and co-founder of Motive. “Her perspective will be a significant asset to the Motive board.”

Motive’s AI-powered solutions for driver safety and fleet and workforce management are already widely used in North America and have now launched in the UK, targeted at businesses with complex physical operations.

The firm, which raised $150m (£113m) in a new funding round this summer to accelerate growth, supports fleets across industries such as transportation, construction, field services, energy, utilities and the food and beverage sector.
