Nashville Electric Service streamlines fleet operations with Chevin FleetWave

Nashville Electric Service (NES) has improved fleet maintenance compliance and increased operational efficiency using Chevin Fleet Solutions’ FleetWave fleet management software.

One of the 11 largest public electric utilities in the United States, NES supplies electricity to more than 460,000 customers across Nashville and Davidson County and parts of six surrounding counties.

NES operates a diverse fleet of vehicles to support its operational activities and continues to grow to accommodate an increasing population in Middle Tennessee, placing increasing demands on maintenance planning, asset management and administrative resources.

Before introducing FleetWave, NES relied on a combination of spreadsheets, separate software applications and physical documentation to manage various fleet functions. The organisation wanted to consolidate these activities into a single, centralised system, reducing its reliance on paper vehicle records and registrations while improving the tracking of fleet repair and maintenance expenditures.

Following an evaluation of competing solutions, NES selected Chevin’s FleetWave for its configurability, comprehensive functionality and customer-focused approach.

Meaghan Morgan, fleet business analyst II at Nashville Electric Service, explained: “We had extremely high expectations for a fleet asset management solution. We wanted to reduce our reliance on physical documentation, improve the way we tracked repair and maintenance expenditure, and bring together the many different fleet management functions that were spread across spreadsheets and separate systems.

“Chevin stood out because of the configurability of FleetWave, the breadth of its capabilities and the company’s customer-first approach. We needed a solution that could support our operational requirements while providing the flexibility to adapt as those requirements changed.”

Since implementation, FleetWave has enabled NES to automate and standardise a range of previously manual processes, improving the availability of fleet information and reducing administrative workloads.

The centralised system has also improved the speed with which the fleet department can respond to operational data requests and produce reports for internal and external stakeholders. Standardised processes have made onboarding new maintenance technicians faster and more efficient, helping to maintain consistency across fleet operations.

Importantly, improved maintenance planning and compliance can result in reduced unplanned maintenance work, allowing the utility to manage its fleet resources more effectively.

“FleetWave has helped us stay on top of maintenance planning and day-to-day operations. We can respond more quickly to requests for information, our processes are more consistent, and improved maintenance compliance,” added Morgan.

For NES, the benefits extend beyond replacing manual processes. By bringing fleet information and operational activities together, FleetWave has provided a more consistent approach to managing assets, supporting maintenance decisions and adapting to the requirements of a growing fleet.

The experience demonstrates how a configurable fleet management system can deliver continuing operational improvements, helping organisations maintain control of fleet costs, compliance and resources as their requirements evolve.
