Dacia has teased details of its new-generation Spring electric hatchback ahead of its arrival.

The second generation of the Spring will open “a new chapter for the brand”

The second iteration of the budget electric hatchback will open “a new chapter for the brand, while building on the continuity of a model that has become a benchmark”.

Whereas the current version is built in China, the new model will be built in Europe, swerving EU tariffs. It will share parts with the recently revealed Renault Twingo and gain crossover styling elements.

Dacia says ‘New Spring’ will retain a 100% electric powertrain, four real seats and a proper boot and will springboard plans for a continued “clear ambition to pave the way for electric mobility that is accessible to all”.

Introduced in continental Europe in 2021 before arriving in facelifted form in the UK in 2024, the compact city car has amassed almost 210,000 sales in Europe, shifting the EV conversation to “simple, accessible, no-nonsense electric mobility”.

Billed as the UK’s most affordable electric car, the current Spring offers a choice of 70hp and 100hp electric motors, following its most recent facelift, married up to a 24.3kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery for a WLTP driving range of up to 225km (140 miles).

The current Spring is also available as a cargo utility vehicle, ditching the back seat to offer 1,085 litres of load space and a payload of 370kg, aimed at last-mile deliveries with no tailpipe emissions.
