Kia has uncovered its new Seltos compact SUV, which heads to the UK and rest of Europe for the first time.

The first-generation Seltos is one of Kia’s core models globally and the arrival of the new edition broadens the Korean brand’s C-SUV line-up in Europe, alongside the Sportage, EV5, XCeed, Niro and EV3.

Taking on rivals such as the Volkswagen T-Roc, it’s positioned as a family-friendly five-seat SUV that “merges practicality with expressive design” and is designed for “those who value individuality and versatility”.

Powertrain options will initially deliver a choice of 1.6-litre turbocharged and 2.0-litre naturally aspirated engines with a hybrid due later. Both front- and all-wheel-drive versions will be available.

Built on Kia’s latest K3 platform as the Sportage and Niro, the Seltos slots in-between the two in terms of size, and offers claimed class-leading interior space, including 536 litres of boot space with all five seats in place. It also comes with flexible storage configurations, including a foldable dual-level cargo board, and Kia’s AddGear accessory system, already seen on the PV5, which allows customers to attach modular storage accessories.

The second-generation Seltos also gets bolder looks with “authentic SUV styling” along with “a more confidence-inspiring driving experience and smarter everyday usability”.

The UK line-up is yet to be announced but power options include a 180hp 1.6-litre T-GDi turbocharged petrol engine with seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) or six-speed manual, plus a 193hp version of this engine with an eight-speed auto. There’ll also be a 149hp 2.0-litre petrol engine.

Optional all-wheel drive is available on select specifications, paired with a multi-link rear suspension and Terrain Mode — offering drive settings for Snow, Mud and Sand. The Seltos also comes with Drive Mode Select offering Eco, Normal, Sport settings, and features a column-type shift-by-wire system.

A hybrid variant will join the line-up in 2026, bringing higher efficiency and expanded everyday usability. This will feature vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality for powering external devices and will introduce Kia’s Smart Regenerative Braking System 3.0, which automatically adjusts regenerative braking based on traffic flow and navigation data to optimise energy recovery.

European specifications are yet to be confirmed but the Seltos will feature a panoramic display combining two 12.3-inch screens with a dedicated climate control panel, plus an AI Assistant powered by generative AI, and Kia’s Digital Key 2 for secure smartphone-based vehicle access and sharing.

The Seltos will also come with a full suite of advanced driver-assistance systems, head-up display, a panoramic sunroof, customisable 64-colour mood lighting and premium Harman Kardon and Bose audio systems. Drivers will get access to the Kia Connect Store for digital personalisation and entertainment options, including collaborations with Disney and NBA, and will be able to use over-the-air updates to keep systems current.

Global production of the all-new Seltos begins this month and rollout starts first with India, followed by launches in Korea, North America, Europe and China throughout 2026.
