Paris Motor Show 2026: Hyundai Bayon gains full hybrid in transformative new model
Hyundai has unveiled a new-generation Bayon at the Paris Motor Show, adding a full hybrid version to the range for the first time.
Continuing the ‘Art of Steel’ design philosophy found in the new Tucson unveiled ahead of the show, the Bayon has a squarer and more robust appearance, and comes with a suite of new technology features.
With a full hybrid variant in the range for the first time, the Bayon also gains digital features including Hyundai Digital Key 2, wireless smartphone integration and it is offered with dual 12.3-inch curved displays on higher-grade versions. Front heated and ventilated seats are available and rear-seat passengers have increased legroom, reclining rear seats, centre armrest, heated seats and dedicated rear air ducts. Together with an opening panoramic sunroof, the new model brings many features unavailable in the first-generation model.
An N Line version adds a sharper, more performance-orientated character through technical mesh details, dedicated lower-bumper winglets, 18-inch N Line-specific wheels and high-gloss black cladding. A rear diffuser with integrated twin exhaust outlets further reinforces its sporty appearance. Inside, N Line-specific cloth and textile suede seats give this grade a more premium feel and appearance.
The hybrid powertrain is planned to join the range after the introduction of the internal-combustion versions. The system is expected to combine a 1.6-litre GDI engine with an electric motor and six-speed dual-clutch transmission, producing a combined output of 138hp. Adaptive regenerative braking will adjust recuperation according to driving conditions, while steering-= wheel paddle shifters will allow the driver to select the preferred regeneration level. CO2 emissions for the hybrid are expected to range from 102-113g/km.
Two ICE versions are offered (with no mild hybrid technology), with a choice of 90hp or 115hp turbocharged 1.0-litre engines. All versions are produced at Hyundai’s Türkiye manufacturing plant.
Xavier Martinet, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor Europe, said: “We have strengthened its SUV character with a bolder design, more space, more comfort and technologies that customers would normally expect from larger vehicles. In one of Europe’s most important segments, Bayon gives us a stronger opportunity to attract new customers. With a hybrid powertrain joining the line-up in 2027, Bayon will build on this momentum.
