Renault Group takes full ownership of electric van maker Flexis

Renault Group has officially completed its buyout of electric van manufacturer Flexis after securing all necessary regulatory approvals to take 100% ownership.

Development of the Flexis electric vans will now proceed entirely under Renault Group’s teams

The group has fully integrated the Flexis electric van project into its core portfolio after clearing antitrust hurdles to purchase Volvo Group’s 45% stake and the 10% share previously held by French shipping and logistics group CMA CGM.

Renault stressed that the buyout does not impact the product ambitions or the original industrial plan.

Development of the Flexis software-defined vehicle (SDV) electric vans will now proceed entirely under Renault Group’s teams.

Production of the Renault Trafic Van E-Tech electric, the first fully electric van based on the platform, will begin as initially planned, at the group’s Sandouville plant in France, at the end of 2026.

As part of the longstanding partnership between Renault Group and Volvo Group in light commercial vehicles, Volvo Group, through Renault Trucks, will also market the vehicle from 2027 onwards.

The Flexis joint venture was created in 2023 by former Renault CEO Luca de Meo in partnership with Volvo Group. Headquartered in France, it officially launched in 2024 with plans to introduce a new family of fully electric vans from 2026, based on an SDV platform and providing dedicated services.

The Flexis trio of vehicles – the Step-in van, Cargo van and Panel van – were showcased at the Solutrans show in autumn 2025. Designed for urban logistics, the vans are built on a ‘skateboard’ platform and feature fast charging, high modularity, low floors and 280+ miles of range.

Announcing the planned buyout earlier this year, Renault said the value of the project, the foundations laid since 2024 and the technologies developed were “more than ever aligned with the challenges of urban logistics and its growing decarbonisation needs”.
