Škoda Peaq smashes EV record with 936km drive on a single charge

The Škoda Peaq has set a new range record for seven-seater electric SUVs, covering 936km (582 miles) on a single charge.

Škoda’s new flagship vehicle shattered its official 647km WLTP range by nearly 45%

The brand’s new flagship vehicle shattered its official 647km (402-mile) WLTP range by nearly 45%, driving all the way from the company’s headquarters in Mladá Boleslav, Czech Republic, to the seaside resort of Zandvoort in the Netherlands without a single top-up.

The milestone achievement comes as the largest and most spacious SUV in Škoda’s portfolio starts deliveries with its first customers.

The record-setting journey was completed by two Škoda employees, Marek Jež, head of the Peaq model series and Jakub Krs, who is responsible for high-voltage battery strategy at Škoda Auto.

The drive was completed in a production Škoda Peaq 90 equipped with a 91kWh traction battery (86kWh net), an output of 286hp, rear-wheel drive and 19-inch wheels fitted with standard low-rolling-resistance tyres.

Monitored and certified by the independent authority Tuv Sud, the team set off at midday on Tuesday 25 August, driving through Germany before arriving in the Netherlands the following afternoon.

Without recharging the traction battery, the seven-seater Škoda Peaq achieved an average energy consumption of just 9.2kWh/100km or 6.8mi/kWh.

To maximise the range, the drivers selected the most suitable route and, of course, adapted their driving style accordingly. The hypermiling success was also aided by the Peaq’s aerodynamic design with a drag coefficient of just 0.249.

“In everyday use, customers are unlikely to drive the car this way. Instead, they will take advantage of everything the Peaq has to offer in terms of driving dynamics, onboard infotainment and comfort,” said Marek Jež.

UK order books for the Škoda Peaq – the electric equivalent to the brand’s popular combustion-engined Kodiaq – opened this month. The Peaq is available with a choice of rear-wheel or all-wheel drive and is priced from £51,980 OTR.

The model introduces several features new to the brand, including flush door handles, a panoramic roof with Dynamic Shade Control and bidirectional charging.
