Škoda reboots Felicia Fun pickup as electric offroader

Škoda has reimagined its characterful and colourful Felicia Fun pickup as an electric offroader for the electric era.

The latest Czech cult favourite to be rebooted, the Felicia Fun gets a makeover that combines the “carefree character” of the 1997 original with bold new elements that incorporate Škoda’s Modern Solid design language, first showcased on the Vision 7S concept and a key element of the new Elroq and Enyaq models.

The reinterpretation, developed by French stylist Julien Petitseigneur, carries over the original’s eye-catching yellow paintwork and tailgate spoiler, and adds in chunky bumpers and cladding, along with a new grille based around Škoda’s Tech-Deck Face and flanked by slim, T-shaped LED headlights – a signature element of the Modern Solid styling.

While the rear retains the full-width spoiler of the original, the trim strip in the tailgate has been replaced by a light bar that emits pink rather than red light. Petitseigneur also opted for neon pink for wheel highlights and glass tints to further reinforce the car’s playful, beachside feel.

The interior continues the retro theme. A full-width dashboard screen features old-school video game-style graphics, with CRT-style displays that give a nod to the chunky monitors familiar from the original car’s era.

The original model’s sliding rear bulkhead and additional open-air second-row seats aren’t carried over but Škoda said the concept’s proportions would allow for them in a production-ready model.

The classic Felicia Fun, built between 1997 and 2000, was based on the Felicia pickup but pitched as a lifestyle-focused beach-life vehicle rather than a practical workhorse. Only 4,216 units were produced, making it one of Škoda’s rarest production cars, and just 80 remain licensed in the UK.

Petitseigneur said: “The original car was pure fun – it didn’t take itself too seriously, and it stood out in a way that few other Škodas ever have.”

He added: “The Felicia Fun was unusual, but its design was relatively simple, which made adapting it to Modern Solid surprisingly straightforward.

“It had clean shapes and very little ornamentation, so updating it was more about proportions and details than reinventing it entirely.”

Lamentably, there’s no plans to bring the Felicia Fun to market and the reboot is purely a design study as part of the brand’s ongoing series of modern reinterpretations, following in the footsteps of the 1980s Favorit hatchback, the 200 RS, the 1203 van and the original Voiturette.
