Toyota has extended its bZ4X electric SUV line-up with a new rugged Touring model that offers more space, practicality and the option of all-wheel drive.

On sale in Europe from spring 2026, it’s Toyota’s twin to the Subaru Trailseeker revealed last month under the carmakers’ collaboration and a stretched version of the existing Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra launched back in 2022.

It’s the latest addition to Toyota’s rapidly expanding fully electric line-up, which also includes the all-new Urban Cruiser and C-HR+.

Based on the same platform as the regular bZ4X, it’s 140mm longer and 20mm higher overall (at 4,830mm and 1,670mm respectively) increasing boot space by 33%– an extra 148 litres – to 600 litres.

The line-up will include front- and all-wheel-drive versions, the latter featuring Toyota’s intelligent XMode drive control technology.

The FWD version is expected to have 224hp of power while the AWD is targeted for 380hp, trumping the 343hp in the recently facelifted standard bZ4X and making it the most powerful Toyota BEV on the market.

As well as extra horsepower, the bZ4X Touring can tow trailers up to 1,500kg.

Both FWD and AWD models are equipped with a 74.7kWh (gross capacity) lithium-ion battery and – depending on grade – either an 11kW or a 22kW onboard charger. Maximum fast-charging capacity (DC) is around 150kW. Official WLTP range is yet to be disclosed but the regular model offers 57.7kWh and 73.1kWh packs with up to 356 miles of range following its facelift.

The battery also incorporates the new water cooling system and preconditioning function recently announced for the new bZ4X, which the driver can activate either manually, or automatically by navigating to a fast-charging station, to ensure the battery is at optimum temperature when charging starts.

As with Toyota’s other fully electric models, the bZ4X will come with a 10-year / 650,000-mile battery warranty, subject to an annual health check.

Chunkier styling emphasises the Touring version’s offroad credentials and includes rugged black body cladding, a new lower bumper design, revised LED combination lamps and roof rails that enable a maximum roof load of 70kg.

The interior replicates the facelifted bZ4X and includes the new centre console with 14-inch multimedia screen plus a new City Moss upholstery colour solely for the Touring version.
