Said to be on a par with diesels for fuel efficiency, the four 1.0-litre petrol units comprise the 59bhp and 74bhp MPI units currently in the line-up as well as the 95hp and 110hp units introduced in last year’s facelift to replace the previous 1.2-litre units. Also seen in the Octavia and Škoda Rapid and Rapid Spaceback models, the TSI units come with turbocharging and direct petrol injection and the 110hp variant can be specified with a seven-speed DSG gearbox as an option.

Making its debut at the Geneva Motor Show, the facelifted Fabia will also introduce a redesigned front and rear end including LED lights, as well as new driver assistance technologies including a Blind Spot Detection feature, Rear Traffic Alert system and Light Assist, which switches to low beam when oncoming traffic is detected.

Other changes see the ‘Swing’ infotainment system now get a 6.5-inch display while Škoda’s ‘Simply Clever’ features have been updated with more practical features.

The choice of alloy wheels has been extended too, including the addition of 18-inch wheels for the hatchback while the interior gets various updates.

The facelifted model will launch in the second half of 2018. Prices and updated CO2/MPG figures will be announced around the time of the launch.
