Opel previews Insignia Country Tourer
Opel has revealed its latest-generation Insignia Country Tourer, marking the third variant in the Insignia line-up.
As with the Grand Sport hatchback and the Insignia Sports Tourer, the new Country Tourer is bigger and lighter than its predecessor, thanks to an all-new architecture. Available solely with all-wheel drive featuring torque vectoring, it debuts a new top-of-the-range diesel unit, although no further engine details have been announced, and a new eight-speed automatic transmission.
The Country Tourer also features black protective cladding and silver front and rear skid plates while new five-link rear suspension along with additional ground clearance of 20mm add to its offroading abilities. It also gains a new set-up of two electrically controlled multi-plate clutches instead of a traditional rear differential, enabling more torque to be sent to the outside rear wheel under speed.
Drivers can also choose between ‘Standard’, ‘Sport’ or ‘Tour’ modes, which adapt the dampers, steering, throttle response and shift points.
As with the Sport Tourer, the Country Tourer’s new architecture brings increased dimensions. Wheelbase gains an extra 92mm, bringing extra cabin space, while boot space rises 135 litres to a maximum of 1,665 litres with the optional 40/20/40 foldable rear seats. Other practical features include standard roof railing that can carry roof loads of up to 100kg.
New technologies include the adaptive IntelliLux LED matrix light, head up display, adaptive cruise control(ACC) with automatic emergency braking, Lane Keep Assist with automated steering correction and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
The new Country Tourer also brings latest Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible IntelliLink systems and the updated Opel OnStar system, which now includes a booking service for hotel rooms and parking search.
