Volkswagen premieres overhauled interior for revamped Caddy
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has given a first glimpse of the interior for the heavily revamped Caddy as pre-sales start in its domestic market.
The fifth-generation of the compact van and MPV gets a significant overhaul that includes a redesigned exterior and new-look cabin.
On the outside, the city delivery and family van gets bolder design features that include a new bumper in two versions, new exterior paintwork and completely new alloy wheels, as already revealed.
Bigger changes lie on the inside, as now revealed in new images from the Hannover brand. Key additions include the now free-standing, larger central display with 12.9-inch screen and individually customisable touch controls that give quick access to popular applications. The Caddy, as with other VW models, also now comes with illuminated controls for temperature adjustment. Alongside this, the popular van gets redesigned seat covers and trim strips aligned to each equipment line, while Caddy passenger car and Flexible models now also have grab straps on all B-pillars as entry aids and hangers for jackets above them.
Tech additions include Volkswagen’s Digital Cockpit Pro driver’s instrument cluster that’s now standard for all grades along with an inductive charging tray for mobile telephones with 25W of charging capacity.
The dual USB-C interface at the front now has up to 60W of charging capacity per socket, and a standard USB-C port with up to 45W replaces the previously optional 12V socket on the dash panel.
The model line-up will feature a wide array of variants – including Cargo and passenger car models, each with normal or long wheelbase (Maxi), Trend (new name for base model), Life and Style versions, Edition or California models, and also as the Caddy Flexible or with special conversions for passenger transport.
The passenger car version gets either five or seven seats with the normal wheelbase, while the Caddy Cargo Maxi offers more than 3,100 litres of load compartment volume. Depending on the model, the Caddy can also tow up to 1,500kg.
Powertrains include petrol, diesel or plug-in hybrid eHybrid drive systems. The latter provides a range of over 385 miles (620km), of which up to 75 miles (122km) can be achieved on electric power alone.
VW promises “enormous” luggage and load compartment capacities as well as the expansion options of the high-roof Kombi model. Depending on model, the Caddy can also tow up to 1,500kg with the ball coupling.
The line-up also includes the Caddy California micro camper. It combines compact dimensions (4.5m, or 4.85m for the Maxi) with camping equipment ex works. This includes a removable bed, plus options of a kitchenette in the rear and panoramic glass sunroof.
Like other Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles models, the Caddy also comes with a manufacturer’s warranty of up to five years.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles also offers fleets a portfolio of digital solutions, which can be accessed centrally with the ONE Business ID login credentials.
With the Connect Pro digital fleet solution, fleet managers have a central overview of vehicle data, warnings and service requirements for their Caddy Cargo, for example. Alternatively, Fleet Interface offers a data interface (API) that enables seamless integration of vehicle data into existing systems. And with MyVolkswagen Business, business customers can save configurations of vehicles such as the Caddy Cargo, find successor models and track the order status.
At the start of pre-sales, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is also offering the Caddy Generation special edition model based on the Life specification with equipment packages that include Design, Winter and Assist System bundles as well as roof rails and rear-view camera system. This special edition model can be combined with all available engine/gearbox variants.
Prices in Germany for the passenger car versions start at €34,200 gross (£29,535) for the normal wheelbase and the Maxi at €37,562 (£32,438). The Caddy Cargo starts at €31,511 (£27,212) for the normal wheelbase, while as the long Maxi version, the Caddy Cargo is priced from €34,051 (£29,406).
