Changan is expanding the line-up for its Deepal S05 fully electric crossover with a new plug-in hybrid variant designed for long driving range, low fuel consumption and fast-charging capability.

The new model arrives from September and debuts Ultra-Hybrid technology from the brand, which is one of China’s oldest and largest automotive manufacturers.

Developed for the UK and Europe, the Deepal S05 PHEV teams up a 234hp motor with an 86hp 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine for a total 258hp of power. The motor is fed by an 18.4kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, which can be charged at up to 11kW AC and, as standard, also supports fast charging at up to 55 kW. Another highlight is vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality as standard.

Pure electric range is 100km WLTP (62 miles), putting it in the 10% Benefit-in-Kind bracket for 2026/7, and the Deepal S05 PHEV has a total range of over 1,000km (621 miles). Combined CO2 emissions are 47g/km.

Based on Changan’s BlueCore platform, developed with input from the company’s UK R&D centre in Birmingham, the system “combines the smoothness of electric drive with freedom from range anxiety” and is designed for urban traffic as well as longer journeys.

Changan also says it’s designed for a balance between performance and efficiency. In the combined WLTP cycle, it achieves 2.0l/100km (141.2mpg). Running solely on the petrol engine, consumption is 5.4l/100km (52.3mpg).

As with all Changan models in the UK, the Deepal S05 PHEV comes with a seven-year/100,000-mile vehicle warranty, complemented by an eight-year/124,000-mile warranty for the three electrical systems.

Prices and full specifications for the Deepal S05 PHEV are yet to be announced. It launches first in selected European markets, with the UK arrival scheduled for later in the summer and customer deliveries expected to begin in September.

The new plug-in hybrid compact crossover joins the fully electric version that officially launched in the UK in the spring. The fully electric model, available in both rear-wheel- and all-wheel-drive variants, starts at £37,990 and features a larger 68.8kWh LFP battery that’s good for a WLTP range of 484km (301 miles) for the RWD) and 446km (277 miles) for the AWD.

Deepal’s European line-up also includes the larger S07 SUV launched in 2025 and the smaller E06 that’s due in 2027.
