The XC60, S90 and V90 get Volvo’s Android-powered infotainment system with Google built in as part of a range of updates

The carmaker announced three years ago that it would migrate its infotainment to Google’s Android operating system and the fully electric XC40 Recharge has become the first Volvo car to feature the system.

Benefits for drivers include a user-friendly interface and claimed unparalleled connectivity. The new platform also enables over-the-air updates, launching first on the XC40 Recharge.

Volvo is also introducing a new Digital Services package, which will be available for all Volvo cars with the Android-powered infotainment system and built-in Google apps and services. It includes access to Google apps and services, the Volvo On Call app and the wireless phone charger, as well as all data required to run the services.

Other updates to the XC60, S90 and V90 include Volvo’s latest advanced driver assistance systems, bringing a range of active safety solutions thanks to the use of radars, cameras and ultrasonic sensors.

Further additions include new exterior colour and upholstery options, as well as a leather-free interior option for all models in the 60 series; already available on the XC40 Recharge and also being used for the newly revealed C40 Recharge electric-only coupé-SUV. The latter model launches this summer and, as with the XC40 Recharge, will only be sold online as Volvo transitions to a fully electric car company by 2030, with all electric cars to be available online only.
