Wireless-charging Iveco eDaily van enters service in Italy
Iveco has deployed the first road‑ready eDaily with integrated dynamic and static wireless charging on the A35 Brebemi highway in Italy.
Hailed as a major step toward the future of mobility, the landmark electric van enters service with Italian motorway concessionaire Brebemi as the first road‑ready vehicle equipped for integrated wireless charging – both dynamic (DWPT – Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer) and static.
Specified in the 42C Crew Van version featuring a six‑seat cab, the eLCV is marked out from standard-production eDaily vehicles thanks to the integration of an inductive charging system specifically developed to interface with Brebemi’s dedicated infrastructure.
Its deployment on the A35 Brebemi follows nearly a year of work by Iveco and Brebemi to trial wireless charging in both static and dynamic modes on the equipped ring at the A35 Brebemi ‘Arena del Futuro’ site. The 1,050m test circuit, located in a private area of the A35, is designed to test DWPT and is powered by 1MW of electrical power.
Marco Aimo-Boot, vehicle electrification – T&D innovation & advanced engineering at Iveco Group, said the tests had shown highly positive results and said Iveco had “seized the opportunity” to prepare a new eDaily equipped with the DWPT system.
“Our ambitious goal is to extend static charging functionality to compatible public sites,” he added.
The iconic eDaily is seen as a major step forward in the real‑world application of Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer technology, demonstrating the growing maturity and feasibility of inductive charging.
This opens new scenarios for sustainable transport and accelerates the path to zero‑emission mobility.
The eDaily is the latest milestone in a journey that Brebemi began several years ago with Arena del Futuro, continued through the start-up VoltAtire. The project is seen as an international reference point for wireless charging technologies, and has attracted the interest of manufacturers, industrial operators and institutions.
In recent months, global interest in DWPT has grown further around the world. France inaugurated the world’s first highway section with dynamic wireless charging, while the United States – most recently in Florida – has launched advanced public‑road tests for inductive charging of electric vehicles. The latest developments show how dynamic wireless charging is evolving from experimental phase to a “potential structural solution” for the transport infrastructure of the future.
Iveco said its decision to test a production‑ready vehicle equipped for wireless charging validates the path taken so far, and also highlights how collaboration between infrastructure operators and manufacturers is becoming increasingly strategic to accelerate the adoption of innovative technologies.
