The concept is intended to combine ‘the sportiness of a coupe with the utility of a compact SUV, with technical chief Prof Dr Ulrich Hackenberg having said it shows: ‘A glimpse of how we might imagine a new model in a future TT family.’

The four-door model features a plug-in hybrid drive with two electric motors and a system output of 408PS that consumes on average just 1.9l/100km, equating to a CO2 equivalent of 45g/km, according to Audi. The show car accelerates from 0 to 100kph in 5.2 with an electronically governed top speed of 250km/h.

The Audi TT offroad concept is said to be able to drive over 50km solely on electric power and has a total range of up to 880 kilometers.

The show car is also designed for use with Audi Wireless Charging technology for contactless inductive charging. The infrastructure side – a plate with a coil and an inverter (AC/AC converter) – is placed on the parking spot of the Audi TT offroad concept and connected to the power grid. The charging process begins automatically when the car drives onto the plate and stops automatically when the battery is fully charged. It takes about as long as charging via a cable, and the driver can interrupt the process at any time.

Audi said it’s Wireless Charging technology is more than 90% efficient and is not affected by weather factors such as rain, snow or ice. The alternating field, which is only generated when a car is on the plate, is not harmful for people or animals.

Three driving modes are offered by the Audi drive select management system offers three driving modes. EV mode gives priority to electric driving. In this case, the front drive unit is inactive, and the electric motor at the rear axle with its powerful torque can rapidly accelerate the car to a maximum of 130kph. In Hybrid mode, all three drives work together whilst full system output is available in Sport mode.

The Audi TT offroad concept is based on the Volkswagen Audi Group's versatile MQB platform, with the body based on the ASF (Audi Space Frame) principle and featuring a hybrid concept with both steel and aluminium components. Exterior design is based on the TT and featuring elements from the allroad shooting brake concept seen at Detroit.

The interior also takes inspiration from the new TT and includes an instrument panel designed to look like a wing from the top whilst the air vents are based on jet engines. There are also numerous elements from the Q family, such as a robustly designed tunnel support and functional cup holders in front of the shift lever.

Features include the Audi virtual cockpit, which features a 12.3‑inch TFT display that includes information such as the navigation map as well as detailed information on charging with the Audi Wireless Charging technology.

The show car is also equipped with three Audi Smart Displays for passengers. The fast tablets serve as a mobile infotainment system for use inside and outside of the car and can be used for tasks from DVD or TV streaming to controlling the radio or navigation planning.

The Audi TT offroad concept show car also features two Audi driver assistance systems that are almost ready for production: the intersection assistant, which helps to avoid side-impact collisions, and the previously announced online traffic light information technology, which tells the driver what speed to drive in order to reach the next traffic light while it is green.
